Characteristics

A member of the marsh mallow family, the marsh mallow has similar looking leaves and pale pink flowers. Like common mallow, it contains mucilage.

Various Uses

Cooking

Flowers and young leaves can be eaten raw, and tempura is also recommended.

Medicinal use

A cold maceration of the leaves can be used as an eye wash to relieve eye pain, and a warm maceration can be used as a compress.

Root powder can be used externally and is an ingredient in lotions.
Cultivation

It prefers a slightly moist place and can be increased by sowing seeds or taking cuttings.

In winter, the above-ground parts of the plant die, but this is not a problem.
